The Division of General Internal Medicine is home to dedicated investigators leading medical sciences research funded by the NIH and other extramural agencies.
GIM includes 17 research faculty with approximately $10M across 36 grants in 2026. Areas of research span clinical research and epidemiology, health services research, global health, bioethics, occupational health, and informatics.

- The Institute for Informatics, Data Science and Biostatistics (I2DB) provides an academic and professional home for both research and practice. - The Healthy Work Center addresses health in working populations, including reduction of musculoskeletal injuries, development of exposure assessment methods for epidemiology studies, and promoting mental health and wellness, including the prevention of suicide and substance use disorders, in high-risk worker populations. Educational programs for researchers
- The GIM Research Fellowship embeds physician-scientists in active research. Fellows train in one of four tracks (Global Health, Implementation Science, Clinical and Health Services Research, or Clinical Operations and Quality), earn a graduate certificate or master’s degree, and launch independent academic careers.
