The Primary Care Medicine Clinic (PCMC) provides internal medicine residents with hands-on experience delivering comprehensive primary care in an outpatient setting.
The clinic is an important part of residency training, giving residents the opportunity to build longitudinal relationships with patients and apply their clinical knowledge to the prevention, diagnosis and management of common and complex health conditions. Residents also learn to consider the broader factors that influence health and to coordinate care across the health care system.
Under the supervision of experienced attending physicians, residents receive guidance and feedback as they develop greater independence and confidence in outpatient medicine. The PCMC provides a supportive environment for residents to strengthen clinical reasoning, communication, care coordination and patient-centered decision-making—skills that form the foundation of excellent primary care.
