- By the end of the 12-month program, the fellows will be able to increase patient load from 4-6 patients to 8 patients and independently treat these patients with the attending physician’s collaboration.
- The fellows will be exposed to the most common and complex medical diagnoses through robust experiences in hospital medicine and off-service rotations under the general umbrella of medicine. The fellow will get monthly feedback through evaluations to ensure competency in such areas.
- The fellows will further their knowledge of literature review and evidence-based medicine by reviewing and presenting journal articles relevant to hospital medicine.
The fellows will be scheduled on hospital medicine and off-service rotations for 12 months. The schedule will be 5 days per week, Monday-Friday. They will accrue vacation time, and as under the WashU Policy agreement will be able to use vacation time after 3 months. It is the preference that vacation time will be used while on hospital medicine rotations.
Regarding hospital medicine rotations, the fellows will start their day at 7 AM. They will review their list and perform notes on all their patients. The expectation will be to leave the hospital around 4 PM. Off service rotations will differ depending on each service. It is expected to coordinate with these services on hours and be prompt and professional.
Hospital Medicine Service:
- Being on PA/NP hybrid team – Will be responsible for somewhere between 4-6 patients
- Expect informal lectures / interactive educational sessions in the afternoons as much as time permits
- Expect to chart review / preround on your patients, before rounding as a team on all patients with formal presentations to the attending

- Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Endocrinology – 4-week rotations
- Hepatology, Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit, Oncology, Palliative Care, 2-week rotations

Application Requirements and Apply
- Current PA/NP students in the second half of their clinical year, recent graduates from an accredited APP Program, practicing APPs if interested in broadening their skills and knowledge in Hospital Medicine.
- Eligible to work as an APP in the United States
- Eligible to apply for a MO license
- Documents: CV, Personal statement about interest in Hospital Medicine, three letters of recommendation, at least one from the Program Director for new graduates
