General Internal Medicine at Education Day 2026

Faculty from the Division of General Internal Medicine played a significant role in Education Day 2026 at WashU Medicine.

The annual event—sponsored by the Academy of Educators on Oct. 8—focused on educational topics, celebrating education-focused award recipients and new inductees to the Academy of Educators, and networking with others. Education Day highlights all aspects of WashU Medicine’s mission and recognizes the educators making a difference in the lives of learners, mentees, and colleagues across the medical school.

Division faculty are among leaders in the Academy of Educators and its Education Day committees. Faculty led engaging breakout sessions, presented during the poster session, were inducted to the Academy of Educators, and received awards at the event.

Eileen Lee, MD, served as chair of the Education Day planning committee, with support from the vice-chair and the entire committee.

Director of the Academy of Educators Abby Spencer, MD, MS, FACP, delivered the opening welcome and presented the State of the Academy.

Natalie Baumann, MD, Anthony Dao, MD, Carol Faulk, MD, and Nichole Zehnder, MD, led engaging breakout sessions throughout the day. Mentors in the room for the “Ready, Set, Mentor!” speed mentoring session (chaired by the mentoring committee led by Dennis Chang, MD) included Eva Aagard, MD, and Spencer.

David Vermette, MD, MBA, received a Rising Star Award. The Rising Star Award, established in 2021 by the Academy of Educators, recognizes a current early career WashU faculty member who shows exceptional promise as an educator through contributions in two or more domains of educational service, leadership, or scholarship.

Thomas Hoyt, MD, and Alex Lane, MD, were both inducted into the Academy of Educators.
