Megan Rau, MD, and Ellie Fishbein, MD, from Geriatrics within the Division of General Internal Medicine recently completed a BJC HealthCare leadership course presented by the Department of Medicine at WashU Medicine.
The course, “Fundamentals of Performance Improvement and Change Management,” focused on foundational education and training, including process improvement strategies and skills for leading people and teams through change in a learning health system.
At the culmination of the course, Rau and Fishbein presented their project “Level of Care Documentation in Geriatric Primary Care and Geriatric Assessment Clinic.”
“This course provided a valuable framework for approaching complex systems issues in geriatrics. Our project allowed us to examine how documentation practices influence patient care and team communication, and to develop practical strategies for improvement,” said Rau, who serves as medical director for the Geriatric Assessment Clinic in the Center for Advanced Medicine. Rau also serves as program director for the geriatric fellowship program at WashU Medicine.
