Biography
Janice L. Hanson, PhD, EdS, MH is Professor of Medicine, Co-Director of the Medical Education Research Unit, and Director of Education Scholarship Development at Washington University in St. Louis, as well as the immediate past Chair of MESRE (Medical Education Scholarship, Research, and Evaluation) for the Central Group on Educational Affairs of the Association of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Hanson also holds appointments as Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and Professor Emerita at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine. Dr. Hanson has published and presented on topics such as qualitative research methods, gathering validity evidence, patients and families as advisors and collaborators in education, reflective practice, communication skills, hierarchy in medical culture, inter-professional education, and assessment in medical education, including racial/ethnic disparities in assessment.
Dr. Janice Hanson’s role is to develop the training, mentoring and support infrastructure necessary to help build a nationally recognized center for educational innovation, scholarship and research. Her areas of expertise include patient and family-centered care, patient/physician communication, curriculum development, learner assessment and evaluation in health professional education, humanities in medicine and qualitative research methods.
